Mule Cart: An Armenian Refugee Family’s Escape

Mule Cart follows seven-year-old Anoosh and her family as they join a convoy of refugees escaping Aintab, Turkey at the time of the Armenian Genocide. With only a mule cart for their belongings, they travel along muddy roads through rainy nights. Anoosh is terrified by the roar of cannons, but she is given hope by her mother's song and draws on a family tradition: looking for hopeful pictures in the world around her. The story brings together themes of bravery, family bonds, displacement and cultural identity as Anoosh faces the challenges of their journey.
